The Job

Are you in love with technology? Do you dream of creating apps for the next generation of video streaming? Interactive, with many simultaneously streaming videos and fully immersive? On mobiles, tablets, tv screens or next gen devices like smart- or virtual reality glasses? Do you like working in a team that builds a service for customers like Sky Sports, BT Sport and the biggest major global sports events in the world? Think of Beijing and skating or Doha and Soccer– sometimes contracts are a nuisance when you want to brag.

Sounds good? Read on, you won’t be disappointed. Still in doubt? Check it out anyway, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Revolutionize the fan experience

At Tiledmedia we develop tech that powers the next generation of video streaming. Watch an e-Sports match where you can instantly switch between every Point-of- View, see multiple player’s PoV in small separate windows, fully synced up so you never miss any of the action. Be virtually present in the Barcelona Camp Nou football stadium, powered by our borderless 360 degrees Virtual Reality video, taste the atmosphere and view the game from multiple camera standpoints at ultra high resolutions. Have your selection of other matches playing as small moving thumbnails on top of Camp Nou stadium, switching them to “a big screen in the sky” instantly to watch a goal in the match Real Madrid is playing at the same time somewhere else. Talk with a friend on a mobile phone who is watching the same thing as a streaming multiview experience, all perfectly synchronized and in stunning visual quality.

We are revolutionising the video streaming industry – big words – that we are turning into reality by executing the Rotterdam saying “don’t talk, just work your butt off”. Even more by pushing video streaming tech to its absolute limit. Building tech that truly powers the next generation of entertainment. That is our daily work.

Now we need your help to push our Javascript based front ends to new functionality and performance levels. We have a full-blown Cockpit WebUI based on React that that  talks to the Tiledmedia Cloud platform to control our live and on-demand transcoding. We also use HTML/Javascript/CSS as an UI on our video Player SDK on all kinds of devices, from phones to set-top boxes to smart glasses. Next to these devices we are also bringing our cutting edge video player technology to web browsers where Javascript and its frameworks become increasingly important and an essential cross platform part of the user experience we package with our Player SDK.

Most of your day to day would be filled with web development, Git and brainstorming in front of a whiteboard to solve the next bleeding edge issue you encounter together with the rest of the team. Your work will be in the app stores, customer’s video player applications and front and center in the customer’s face when they control the Tiledmedia Cloud. That work is key to the company’s sales success. A big responsibility but also a lot of fun!

  • Worked with a US partner to ensure the (semi)final of the biggest football event on the planet is streamed smoothly in extreme VR quality
  • Developed the native Mosaic Multiview SDK for iOS, a great way to build user experiences with many moving videos on the same screen, check out https://vimeo.com/683285557 for a cool video showing off the tech
  • Shop for bread with Mees, clean out the dishwasher in the morning or walk the occasional office dog with Sergio during lunch
  • Worked on a new way to better squash bugs in our player core
  • Developed synchronized subtitle tracks for our Chinese customers (yes, we also have a Chinese branch)
  • Submitted a ton of pull requests, get feedback, change code, repeat, merge!

  • Go to a Korean BBQ with your colleagues
  • Did your monthly walk about with our CEO, discussing over a good cup of espresso how things are developing
  • Go to ‘De Gele Kanarie’ or ‘the Mexican’ that are our usual haunts next to the office, to welcome a new Tiledmedian or say goodbye to one.

The Job

Are you in love with technology? Do you dream of orchestrating 1000s of cloud nodes in harmony to produce the best streaming experience possible? Do you like working with modern coding languages like Golang? In a team that builds a service that scales globally to millions of users at the same time? Deploying those cloud platforms worldwide? For example for really big sports events like this summer in Japan? Or this winter in China?

Sounds good? Read on, you won’t be disappointed. Still in doubt? Check it out anyway, you may be pleasantly surprised.

The Football Metaverse – yes, the M-word, I know – but no worries, we are practical people, so read on

At Tiledmedia we develop tech that powers the next generation of video streaming. Be virtually in the Feyenoord Rotterdam ‘De Kuip’ football stadium, powered by our borderless 360 degrees Virtual Reality video, taste the atmosphere and view the game from multiple camera standpoints at ultra high resolutions. Have your selection of tv channels of other matches as small moving thumbnails, switching them to a big screen in the Sky above the ‘Kuip’ if you want to watch a goal in the match Ajax is playing. Talk with a friend who has the same tv channels like a moving mosaic on his mobile phone, watching the same match as you do, all in total sync and in extreme quality. Jump from one stadium to another just like that – can you see the Football Metaverse appearing?

Talking about quality – our video streaming tech makes sure that people can watch live and on demand VR up to 16K 360 degree. Yes, 16K. And you only need a normal Internet connection, nothing fancy. To quote our CTO Ray: “Just cut it up in tiles, stream it, glue it back together and Bob’s your uncle!” Those tiles, that’s indeed where our name comes from.

We are revolutionising the VR and video streaming industry – big words – that we are turning into reality by executing the Rotterdam saying ‘don’t talk, just work your butt off’ but even more by pushing video streaming tech to its absolute limit. Building tech that truly powers the next generation of entertainment (or the Metaverse if you prefer). That is our daily work.

Want to get an impression of our software stack?

Here you go

If you’d be our colleague, you could have worked on these things recently.

  • Helped roll out a improved version of our client-side SDK, now capable of showing unlimited tv channels overlaid on VR video
  • Tested with a Chinese camera manufacturer their latest VR camera – remotely in China – without leaving the Rotterdam office!
  • Shop for bread with Mees & Lorenzo and turn on the dishwasher at the end of the day
  • Make our transcoder backend capable of ingesting the latest and greatest streaming protocol
  • Put in a shitload of pull requests, got feedback, changed code, repeat!
  • Discussed James Bond, the meaning of life or how to write apple juice in Dutch at the lunch table with your colleagues, while producing the most fantastic sandwich innovations (learn from Yoda sandwich master Xavier)
  • Actually go to the cinema with your colleagues to see Daniel Craig
  • Deployed an update of our live streaming platform to the Middle East
  • Did your monthly walk about with our CEO, discussing over a good cup of espresso how things are developing
  • Set the lunch table – we just added an extra table to ensure we can all fit.
  • Went to the ‘De Gele Kanarie’, our favorite beer brewery and bar next to the office, to welcome Sergio – our latest dev hire.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking to expand our team with an Unity developer that also has a healthy interest in the SDK layers just below his application. In this challenging role, you’ll shape the way our customers will first interact with Tiledmedia: through one of our apps. This means multiple SDKs next Tiledmedia’s own to cater for and sometimes excursions to the underlying Android or iOS system are also part of the game. And above all the application should be a poster child (‘visitekaartje’) for our ClearVR technology!

As an Unity developer you have an enthusiastic, proactive and passionate attitude and a ‘can do’ mentality. You’re eager to learn new technologies and thrive in environment where there’s a constant stream of new and challenging problems to tackle.
